Saxend (liraglutide) injection 3 mg is an injectable prescription medicine used for adults with excess weight (BMI ≥27) who also have weight-related medical problems or obesity (BMI ≥30), and children aged 12-17 years with a body weight above 132 pounds (60 kg) and obesity to help them lose weight and keep the weight off. Saxend should be used with a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity. 

 

• Saxend and Victoza® have the same active ingredient, liraglutide, and should not be used together or with other GLP-1 receptor agonist medicines
• It is not known if Saxend is safe and effective when taken with other prescription, over-the-counter medicines, or herbal weight-loss products
• It is not known if Saxendis safe and effective in children under 12 years of age
• It is not known if Saxend is safe and effective in children aged 12 to 17 years with type 2 diabetes

 

Insight:

• Dosing: Recommended dose of liraglutid e is 3 mg daily. Administer at any time of day, without regard to the timing of meals.

• Dosage forms: Solution for subcutaneous injection, pre-filled, multi-dose pen that delivers doses of 0.6 mg, 1.2 mg, 1.8 mg, 2.4 mg, or 3 mg (6 mg/mL, 3 mL).

• Adverse events: Most common adverse reactions, reported in greater than or equal to 5% are: nausea, hypoglycemia, diarrhe a, constipation, vomiting, headache, decreased appetite, dyspepsia, fatigue, dizziness, abdominal pain, and increased lipase.

• Mechanism of action: Liraglutid e is an acylated human GLP-1 receptor agonist with 97% amino acid sequence homology to endogenous human GLP-1 (7-37). Like endogenous GLP-1, liraglutid e binds to and activates the GLP-1 receptor, a cell-surface receptor coupled to adenylyl cyclase activation through the stimulatory G-protein, Gs.
