How BELKYRA Works
BELKYRA injections contain a naturally occurring molecule called deoxycholic acid, which aids in digestion by breaking down dietary fat. When it is injected into the fat beneath the chin, BELKYRA destroys fat cells. As the cells break down, the body gradually eliminates them through its normal metabolic process. Once destroyed, these fat cells are gone for good.
How fat dissolving injections work
A double chin can be a hereditary factor, even an aggressive diet and exercise may not result in satisfactory chin fat removal. In the past, medical treatment generally involved surgical removal using a liposuction technique.
Belkyra™ treatment is a different approach.
Your body produces a substance called deoxycholic acid, which helps to break down fats in the digestive tract so they can be absorbed. Belkyra™ is synthetic deoxycholic acid. This prescription medicine is injected into the submental area, where it destroys fat cells.
What to expect from double chin removal
At Vanguard Medical & Aesthetic Clinic, treatment is performed by an experienced injector. It begins with an examination, review of your medical history, and consultation. If you are a suitable candidate for Belkyra™, the doctor designs a customized treatment plan.
The quantity and placement of multiple small injections and the number of sessions (three treatments, spaced at least a month apart) are tailored to your needs.
A typical treatment takes only 15 to 20 minutes.
The treatment area is numbed, so you remain comfortable.
You may return to work or other activities after your appointment.
Some patients experience swelling, bruising, or numbness, but these side effects are temporary. The doctor will talk with you about other less common but possible side effects.
You begin to see change within twelve weeks of the first session, with continued improvement for several weeks after the final treatment.
Once treated cells are eliminated by the body's natural processes, they can no longer store fat, so results are long-lasting. Periodic maintenance treatment is generally NOT needed.

What to Expect from Belkyra Recovery?
Expect to have some bruising, swelling, inflammation, pain, redness, and temporary numbness at the injection site. Less common complications include difficulty swallowing (dysphagia), skin ulceration, temporary nerve injury, and temporary or permanent beard hair loss; the swelling usually lasts a few days.
Most people can get back to regular activity right after the procedure. Your doctor might ask you to wear a compression garment to help with swelling. Apart from that, there aren't any specific requirements for the recovery phase. It is a reasonably non-invasive treatment with no severe side effects or long-term recovery.
